<dc:description>
This dataset supports the article "Size-structured monitoring and otolith chemistry reveal recurrent tidal-freshwater use by juvenile Japanese grenadier anchovy Coilia nasus in the lower Yangtze River" (Journal of Fish Biology).

Fish were sampled with a single fixed T-shaped trap net at the Jingjiang monitoring station, lower Yangtze River, from 2002 to 2017. The survey register contains 551 scheduled retrievals, of which 519 were effective surveys; 10,567 C. nasus were counted and 10,560 were measured for standard length. Missed surveys are recorded as missing, not as zero catches.

figshare.zip contains five data files and a README with field definitions: the survey register with catch and size-class counts (sampling_events.csv), individual standard lengths and scale-annulus readings (body_lengths.csv), monthly environmental variables for the 192 study months (monthly_environment.csv), conditions on scheduled retrieval days (sampling_day_environment.csv) and LA-ICP-MS core-to-edge Sr/Ca profiles for 115 otoliths (otolith_all_points_20260626.csv; 37,392 points).

Otolith Sr/Ca values are mass ratios reported as Sr/Ca × 10³, numerically equal to mg Sr per g Ca; they are not molar ratios (multiply by 0.457 to obtain mmol mol⁻¹). The study-specific classification threshold of 3.5 corresponds to approximately 1.60 mmol mol⁻¹.

The Juvenile Recruitment Index (JRI) is the August–October count of fish <120 mm standard length per effective survey; large-fish CPUE (LBCPUE) is the annual count of fish ≥180 mm standard length per effective survey. Both are relative indices, not estimates of absolute abundance.
</dc:description>
