<dc:description>This thesis explores polymeric microneedles as an innovative drug delivery strategy to improve antibiotic administration and combat antimicrobial resistance, which is reducing the effectiveness of conventional antibiotics. Given the slow pace and high cost of developing new antibiotics, optimising the use of existing agents through advanced delivery systems is vital. This research focused on enhancing the delivery of two model antibiotics (ceftazidime and mupirocin) using hydrogel-forming and dissolving microneedles, and proved that microneedle-based delivery platforms can administer antibiotics at clinically meaningful levels while maintaining antimicrobial activity.

Thesis is embargoed until 31 December 2028.</dc:description>
