<dc:description>Reinforced soil technology has become a cornerstone of moderngeotechnical engineering, providing efficient and sustainable solutions forenhancing soil stability and load-bearing capacity. Its applications inretaining walls, embankments, and slopes offer cost-effective andenvironmentally conscious alternatives to conventional construction, aligningwith the growing emphasis on sustainable infrastructure. Despite its success, uncertainties remain regarding reinforcement–soil interaction, long-term materialbehaviour, and the mechanisms governing failure under complex loadingscenarios. These challenges highlight the importance of advancing experimentaland numerical methods to refine design guidelines and improve structuralreliability.

Thesis is embargoed until 31 December 2028.</dc:description>
