<dc:description>This thesis retroactively looks at my conceptual moving image artworks, using speculative strategies to examine them. It asks: What happens when we use speculative methods to propose “what if” or “let’s say” scenarios? What if we treat the video works made during the PhD as critical and poetic sites of inquiry? This project began with my voice - Irish, neurodivergent, queer, non-binary, shaped by recovery and working-class experience. The collective consciousness becomes a voice within the moving image works, to explore positionality, the disembodied self, and living with digital technology. The portfolio includes three video works and five speculative fiction texts, produced between 2020-23, reflecting on our enmeshed1 relationship with digital technology. Influenced by artists and thinkers such as Pauline Oliveros, Johanna Hedva, and Byung-Chul Han, the research engages speculative fiction as both method and form. This project became a site of institutional resistance, using autofiction and moving image works to ask: can we frame human-machine relations as porous, poetic, and political? What if resistance lies in divergence, voice, and speculative play?</dc:description>
