<dc:description>Antibiotic resistance has become a crisis which severely threatens human health and with associated increased economic burdens. There is thus an increasing requirement for developing new antimicrobial drugs. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) from frog skin secretions are potential candidates. These are components of the frog immune system and showed inhibitory effects against various pathogens. AMPs were discovered in the skin secretions of Rana chensinesis, and in these studies, their bioactivities were evaluated. The aims of this study were to evaluate these AMPs efficacies against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and enhance their antimicrobial activities through chemical structural modifications.

Thesis is embargoed until 31 July 2030.</dc:description>
