<dc:description>This thesis explores how tourism was perceived, experienced, and debated in Ulster from 1900 to 1975. In this study, I consider how particular places popular with tourists managed tourism growth as modernisation and car ownership reshaped local economies and identities. Local factors, such as peculiar forms of settlement and Ulster's peripherality in relation to centres of population and industry, combined with local expressions of culture and religiosity to create a unique experience of modernity in Ulster.</dc:description>
