<dc:description>With the global rise of antibiotic resistance posing a significant challenge to the world, the exploration of alternative strategies to combat bacterial infections has become imperative. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have emerged as promising candidates due to their unique mechanisms of action and potential efficacy. This study was carried out under this field with the aim of discovering a novel antimicrobial peptide. In this case, a novel peptide called QUB-2589 was identified from the skin secretions of Agalychnis annae using molecular cloning techniques. Following that, the polypeptide was synthesised through solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) and purified via reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The molecular mass was confirmed using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of fight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF). QUB-2589 underwent a series of bioactivity tests.

Thesis is embargoed until 31 December 2028.</dc:description>
