<dc:description>An extremely large volume of new chemical entities, as well as existing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), on the market, possess sub-optimal physicochemical properties; particularly, their solubility. The synthesis of multi-component pharmaceutical systems, including the lesser-studied eutectic and liquid systems, pose as approaches with which to improve the physicochemical properties of these APIs. Currently, one of the biggest development hurdles associated with multi-component systems, and in particular liquid systems, is their intermediate handling. Consequently, this research aims to use a continuous manufacturing technique, hot-melt extrusion (HME), to manufacture multi-component systems while removing their intermediate handling.

Thesis embargoed until 31 December 2026.</dc:description>
