The commentary offers a new approach to ‘time-play’ fiction for children, demonstrating how exploring this area of scholarship as a practising writer can bring productive original insights to the discipline. It examines a group of recent children’s novels which use time-play to foreground minoritised stories. Key components include the playframe on which such novels are built, the ethical risks of connecting time-play with minoritised experience, and the affective possibilities of imagery.
