Using two decades of satellite greenness across ~369,000 global grassland pixels, the study separates the climate response of grassland greenness into spatial (between-pixel) and temporal (within-pixel) dimensions, resolves a hidden temporal temperature optimum, attributes heat damage partly to soil drying, projects observation-constrained changes to 2100, and benchmarks five CMIP6 Earth system models against the observed optimum. This deposit contains: (1) code/ — all analysis and figure-generation scripts (Python; comments in English); and (2) figure_source_data/ — the processed result tables underlying main Figures 1-6 and the Supplementary Figures. All input data are from public sources cited in the manuscript; no new raw data were generated. The ~2 GB merged pixel-level master table is available from the corresponding authors on request.
