<dc:description>

This deposit supports a study of walleye (Sander vitreus) activity and energy expenditure using acoustic accelerometer transmitters in Lakes Erie, Michigan, Ontario and Winnipeg. It includes hourly VeDBA data for tagged fish (walleye_hourly_summary.csv), the analysis script (Bihun_ACCEL_script_revised_Sept28_2026.R), and the fitted lake-specific GAMMs and calibration coefficients (walleye_vedba_models.rds). The models relate hourly ln VeDBA to temperature (with separate curves for each sex), ln body mass and sex, controlling for detection count, diel and seasonal variation (hour of day and day of year) and individual fish.

An annotated R example (walleye_energy.R) shows how to use them. Its functions predict hourly VeDBA from temperature and body mass (get_vedba), convert VeDBA to oxygen consumption and energy expenditure using the swim-tunnel calibration (get_energy), and sum hourly values to daily totals (daily_totals). The example uses illustrative temperatures and body masses, and can be run with a user's own temperature series, for example to replace the respiration term of a bioenergetics model.

</dc:description>
