<dc:description><p dir="ltr">The research investigated the evolution of herbicide resistance in Amaranthus hybridus populations in South Africa and aims to identify the physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms underlying this resistance. The study focuses primarily on populations from Bergville and Winterton (KwaZulu-Natal), compared with a susceptible population from Hendrina (Mpumalanga). The study revealed that the Bergville and Winterton populations were highly resistant to glyphosate (EPSPS inhibitor) and chlorimuron-ethyl (ALS inhibitor), conferred by non-synonymous mutations in the targeted genes. However, these populations were effectively controlled by atrazine (PSII inhibitor), mestotrione (HPPD inhibitor), and a tank mixture of tembotrione (HPPD inhibitor) and atrazine.</p></dc:description>
