The YUP (Co-producing digital platforms for youth-inclusive urban governance, Project ID number: 26879/001) project aims to understand young people’s role in urban planning and governance in four small to medium-sized cities in Indonesia (Surakarta and Denpasar), and Lebanon (Bar Elias and El Mina). YUP explores how young people can collaborate with key stakeholders to address urban issues important to them through digital platforms. YUP is working closely with young people across four cities, both as participants to better understand the current state of young people's participation in the city, and as urban actors to co-design a digital platform with city stakeholders to foster their meaningful participation in urban governance. This project is also working with trained youth citizen scientists, who have played a central role since the beginning of the research. The YUP project is a collaboration between the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (University College London), Kota Kita, CatalyticAction, and the SHM Foundation.

This dataset consists of three sections: 1) Social identity: Status in the city, Age, Gender, Ability, Ethnicity (Indonesia)/Nationality (Lebanon), Religion, Current activity, Education; 2) Participation in the city: Most important domain/issue, Action/Participation on domain/issue and its ranking, Action leader, Factors that encourage young people to be active, Factors that discourage young people to be active, to what extent do young people think they can impact the city, Actors that young people think could work most and least effectively with them in the city; 3) Digital media usage: Digital hardware used by young people, Digital platforms used by young people, How young people use digital media, Factors that young people like about digital media, Factors that limit young people from using digital media.
